Do you think I should take my daughter to the ER? What could be wrong with her ankle?
Hi.
My daughter sprained her ankle last easter. After 5 months things still were not looking good. So I took her to a different doctor. After a MRI the doctor concluded that she had a fracture and torn ligament which the other doctor did not see. She is a competitve travel soccer player. WHen playing she is requried to wear a very hefty duty brace. Lately after she has finished practice or a game her ankle has been swelling directly on top of where one of the ligaments is. The doctor said that they would do surgery when she is 18 because the fracture is directly next to the growth plate but that is not for another 6 years. I do not think she can wait that long. What do yousugest that we do? Usually the swelling goes away by the next morning after her soccer practice or game but her ankle has been swolen for three days and she can barely walk. Should I take her ot the ER or Urgent Care or wait and call the ankle specialist.
Please, do NOT waste your time (and money) at the ER or Urgent Care.
Make an appointment with a credentialed orthopedic surgeon who is expert in pediatrics & ankles.
(it won't be that difficult).
She needs to take a break from soccer (practice + games) NOW.
